In praise of minimalism: sub-million line code

As of 2024 it is entirely normal to ship software as 350MB containers, or to have code with 1600 dependencies. This is already not great, but the growth in code size has been going on forever and shows no signs of stopping. In this presentation I talk about how this came about & what the problems are in terms of sustainability, security and performance. I also present a rather minimal yet powerful image sharing site which is distributed as a <2MB compressed self-contained Docker image, with fewer than 2000 lines and only a few dependencies.
