Interactions that work for all users
This talk explores how users interact with websites and how developers can make those interactions accessible to everyone. Using practical examples, such as converting an inaccessible hover menu or carousel into accessible versions, we’ll explore common accessibility issues and their solutions. The session will include multiple coding demonstrations to illustrate how intentional code changes can significantly impact digital inclusion.
Outline:
– Introduction to accessibility
– Live Scenario Walkthroughs: We’ll begin with an inaccessible example, such as a disclosure widget, and demonstrate how it behaves when tested with assistive technologies like a keyboard and screen reader. Then, through live coding, we’ll refactor the component to make it fully accessible, showing the improvements in real time.
– There will be around 2-3 different examples for complex components, like disclosure widgets and carousels
